Discover 10 family-friendly fun activities near Canyon Falls

Along with new homes in Argyle, Northlake and Flower Mound, Canyon Falls offers a great location convenient to fun attractions in nearby North Texas cities such as Roanoke, Grapevine, Lewisville and even Fort Worth.

Now that Texas is opening up and summer’s almost here, here’s our list of 10 fun family-friendly activities to enjoy in every season, from NASCAR thrills to axe-throwing chills. They’re all so close to Canyon Falls, you can enjoy them often.

Grapevine

Known as the Christmas Capital of Texas, Grapevine is also a fun year-round destination for families. Some of the biggest events include the annual July 4 Fireworks Extravaganza, the weekly Grapevine Farmers and Artisan Market on Saturday mornings, and several waterparks including the floating WhoaZone on Lake Grapevine. With the Pioneers Summer Passport, kids can take part in old-time activities at Millican’s Blacksmith Shop, the one-room Donald Schoolhouse, Nash Farm and other historic attractions. In mid-September, Grapefest is the largest wine festival in the Southwest. In October, you can celebrate Halloween with Texas craft brews and delicious freaky fare aboard the Grapevine Vintage Railroad’s Witches Brew Train.

Roanoke, The Unique Dining Capital of Texas

Just a few miles from Canyon Falls, the charming town of Roanoke is known as the Unique Dining Capital of Texas, with more than 60 restaurants in the walkable historic downtown area. There’s much more to Roanoke than delicious food, making it easy to enjoy a full day or evening of family fun. The Evenings on Oak Street concert series features live music from March through September. Roanoke’s Third Rocks is an Independence Day extravaganza on July 3, with live music, games and fabulous fireworks. Celebrate Roanoke is a fall festival on the second Saturday of October, followed by a Veterans Day Parade in November and Hometown Holiday celebration in December. On Saturday mornings, the Roanoke Farmers Market features dozens of friendly vendors along with free yoga classes and an Open Mic showcase of local talent.

Texas Motor Speedway

One of the most modern speedways in the world, Texas Motor Speedway offers action-packed events nearly every day of the year. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Nationwide Series, and Camping World Truck Series each run two races a year at the track in addition to an Indy Racing League IndyCar Series race. It is currently the fastest track on the NASCAR circuit, with speeds nearing 200 mph. With a capacity of 191,122 spectators, it dwarfs the next biggest venue in Texas and can fit four Cowboys Stadiums inside. It includes 144 luxury suites, the Lone Star Tower housing offices and condominiums, and a members-only Speedway Club that features a restaurant, fitness center, spa, press box, and the Time Warner Cable Broadcast Center. Burnout Alley hosts 52 luxury motorcoach spots located along the speedway's backstretch.

Hawaiian Falls Roanoke

Roanoke is also home to the closest outpost of Hawaiian Falls, located directly below the town’s iconic water tower. Built with family in mind, this Hawaiian-themed water wonderland invites you to play with the kids in the Wave Pool, hang out in the Lazy River as they float by, or watch as they go down their favorite rides like the Pineapple Express. The Mega WaterWorld attraction, the largest aquatic play structure in the world, is equipped with body slides, dump buckets, a three-line racer, and a family raft ride. The Roanoke locaion boasts Beach Blasters, the world's first multi-tube slide where participants race to the finish line. Lifeguards and EMTs are on site to ensure safety.

Southlake Town Square

Shopping is just the beginning of all the activities you can enjoy at Southlake Town Square, a unique open-air lifestyle shopping district with more than 120 shops and dozens of fine restaurants. Set on 130 acres, with beautiful water fountains and green spaces, this nationally recognized shopping and entertainment destination is nestled in the heart of Southlake, just a few miles from Canyon Falls. It offers quaint boutiques, couture clothiers, fine jewelers and an upscale Hilton Hotel. There is a year-round calendar of music and special events, including the Stars and Stripes July 4 celebration, Oktoberfest, and the nationally ranked Art in the Square event in September. Live music concerts are scheduled throughout the year.

Denton – Hip and Historic

Home to the prestigious University of North Texas as well as Texas Woman’s University and North Central Texas College, Denton combines the youthful personality of a college town with the attractions and sophistication of one of the state’s most creative cities. Denton’s live music scene is recognized as one of the nation’s best, with live music nearly every night and music and art festivals almost every month. Take that, Austin. Some of Denton’s most popular annual events include the Denton Juneteenth celebration, the Denton Bridal Show, the Fourth of July Jubilee and the Twilight Tunes free concert series. From its historic award-winning downtown district to natural attractions like the Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center, Denton offers something for every member of the family.

Lovely Lewisville

Located near the shore of 29,000-acre Lewisville Lake, the city of Lewisville offers everything from water sports and festival, to live music and historical sites. The official “Urban Bass Fishing Capital of Texas,” Lewisville Lake has 233 miles of shoreline with a plethora of parks and trails, including 622-acre Lewisville Lake Park. Some of Lewisville’s most popular annual events include the Sounds of Lewisville live music series, ColorPalooza, Western Days festival and Holiday Stroll. Old Town Lewisville offers a delightful step back in time to the 1800s, with live performances at two theaters, an urban park with water features and public art, ghost tours, a distillery and winery, vintage shopping and Southern comfort food.

Bob Jones Nature Center & Preserve

One of the most intriguing nature preserves in Texas is right in Canyon Falls’ backyard. Located in Southlake, the Bob Jones Nature Center & Preserve has more than 20 miles of hiking trails meandering through 758 acres of pristinely preserved Cross Timbers habitat. An oasis from life’s hustle and bustle, this center is home to nearly 700 species of plants and animals, with interpretive exhibits and programs offered year-round, including community hikes, lake hikes and open houses. The Nature Center building is also available for rental for unique parties. Nearby, but separate, Bob Jones Park is an approximately 500-acre park with 13 soccer fields (several of them lighted), a 6-acre fishing pond, a girls’ softball complex, and Boo Boo’s Buddies Dog Park.

Fun Fort Worth

It’s an easy drive from Canyon Falls to Fort Worth, with attractions including the world-famous Stockyards National Historic District, where brick streets lead to historic buildings filled with museums, restaurants, shops and saloons. Major attractions include the twice-daily cattle drive and newly renovated Mule Alley, a collection of iconic stores and restaurants. The Cultural District is home to five world-class museums by renowned architects, in a walkable setting. The vibrant downtown offers Sundance Square Plaza and Bass Performance Hall, with events including the Main Street Fort Worth Arts Festival, Mayfest, Parade of Lights and Rockin’ the River.

Cinnamon Creek Ranch

Want to work off some energy? Axe throwing is one of the many activities offered at Cinnamon Creek Ranch in Roanoke, which is best known as the premier archery destination in Texas, with classes for all ages and skill levels. This attraction also offers the Concert by the Creek live music series, along with a popular Couples by the Creek programs. A kids’ summer camp offers 3D trail exploration adventures, themed archery days, creekside fishing and more. Private parties are welcomed, with catering available.
